I had my first taste of virtual reality escape room at Pirate Land thanks to a voucher I found on Fave. I had no idea what to expect since I have not played escape room before but it sounded fun so I decided to give it a try with a friend.
Pirate Land
Pirate Land is located on level 4 of The Centrepoint. The left side of Pirate Land is a big indoor playground for kids below 2 years old and 2-14 years old. There are lots of activities for kids such as mini excavator ride and mini slides.
The right side of the shop is where virtual reality escape room is conducted. The Fave voucher entitles the player a choice from three games (in order of difficulty):
- Escape The Lost Pyramid
- Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time
- Beyond Medusa’s Gate
Since this is both out first time playing virtual reality escape room, we decided to play the easiest of the three, Escape The Lost Pyramid.
Pirate Land has a big room and smaller room for virtual reality escape room depending on how many people are playing together. Since there’s just the two of us, they gave us the smaller room.
You will be given a headset that comes with headphones that is attached to the ceiling of the room. You will also hold a remote in each hand. The remotes act as your hands and legs in the game.
In virtual reality games, you don’t physically move. You point with the remote to the place you want to go, press a button and you will are there. You also use the remote to pick up things.
I am in awe of how life-like virtual reality games are. The sound effects and graphics makes me feel that I am really in a pyramid. We start at the bottom of the pyramid and solve puzzles to ascend to higher levels.
In the Escape The Lost Pyramid game, we had to shoot arrows, climb, pull and do lots of different maneuvers. It is so much fun that 75 minutes flew by very quickly. In the end, we uncovered the hidden treasure in the pyramid and made it to the top of the pyramid.
At the top of the pyramid, a flying orb flew around us. We didn’t know what it was back then, until the shop manager sent us the photographs through WhatsApp a few days later. That’s us, the cowboy and cowgirl, don’t I look like Laura Craft?
Virtual reality escape room is really fun to play and it is very safe since you are not physically moving around. The sound effects and graphics are super realistic, you really get the whole experience. If you have the chance, I strongly recommend playing virtual reality escape room.
