On my recent weekend getaway to Johor Bahru, I discovered an old-fashioned coffeeshop called Triple K Cafe.
Triple K Cafe is located towards the end of Jalan Tan Hiok Nee. It’s one of those coffeeshops you probably walked past without even noticing. Aesthetically, there’s nothing worth noting. There’s just opened metal grills, revealing dirty-green floor with plastic tables and chairs.
The food is prepared at the back of the coffeeshop, using cupboards from the 60s.
Triple K Cafe’s menu has a little of everything, from fish and chicken to Chinese dumplings. But they specialize in beef and mutton soups.
I wanted to try both the beef and mutton so I ordered Beef Noodle [RM$12 / RM$15 / RM$20 / RM$30] and a Mutton Soup [RM$12 / RM$15 / RM$20 / RM$30].
You can’t miss the pungent fragrance of spices and herbs, but the soups are a little too salty for my liking.
The owner proudly proclaims that their beef and mutton soup is handmade with blend of spices and herbs. There is no monosodium glutamate, just pure herby goodness.
I find the soups a little too salty and the herb taste a little too strong. But otherwise it’s comfortable food perfect for a light lunch or dinner.
